Interplay Theatre is looking for a new Artistic Director and Joint CEO to build on the success of Steve Byrnes 27 years of leadership. We are seeking an experienced and creative arts leader who will develop and deliver a dynamic and inclusive artistic vision across all areas of the company’s work. With the Executive Director, you will be responsible for leading an organisational culture that is supportive and inclusive and creating a company model that is financially secure and resilient.

Artistic Leadership

• Develop and deliver an ambitious and distinctive artistic vison that reflects the company’s values, achieves artistic excellence, and ensures a strong identity for Interplay Theatre at a local, regional and national level.

• Plan an Artistic Programme taking into account the resources available and alongside the Executive Director, ensure that it is financially achievable and delivered to the highest standards.

• Take a creative lead on realising Interplay productions including developing diverse and skilled creative teams.

• Lead on Interplay’s talent development activities and the programming of performances in our venue.

• Guide and support the Associate Director (Young People and Community) to deliver a vibrant programme, ensuring that this work is central to Interplay’s programme.

• Together with the Executive Director seek out, develop and manage partnerships and collaborations that will support the company in delivering its artistic vision and programme.

• Stay abreast of developments in British and World Theatre, particularly in the areas of Interplay’s Artistic Programme.

Organisational Leadership

• With the Board and Executive Director, develop and monitor the organisations overall strategic direction and the artistic and business plans.

• Recruit and line manage creative and production teams and staff in line with company procedures and policy.

• Ensure that inclusion and access remain at the heart of all aspects of Interplay’s work

• Support the Executive Director to ensure that all policies and legal procedures governing people at work are regularly reviewed and updated, enusring that Interplay meets all statutory requirements.

• With the Executive Director, ensure the company delivers its commitments to funders and supporters, including Arts Council England.

• Proactively support the Executive Director and external consultants in identifying sources of income and funding, contributing to funding applications, maintaining funder relationships and contributing to funder reports.

• Attend and prepare written reports for Board Meetings and for any sub-committees of the Board as required.

• Champion the importance of environmental sustainability across the organisation in creative and innovative ways.

• Be an active ambassador for Interplay, maintaining a visible presence in the sector and community, promoting the organisation’s work and reputation, representing the company at appropriate artistic regional, national and international forums.
