Working as part of the Technical team, led by the Technical Manager. The Head of Lighting will work closely alongside the Head of Sound, House Technicians and Casual Technicians as required.

The Head of Lighting will take senior responsibility for the delivery and management of lighting requirements for Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch productions and co-produced work, presented performances and related projects.

Responsibilities

• To work with and support the creative teams to realise each production’s lighting design to the highest standard within allocated resources.

• To design/establish a standard generic lighting rig for periods of hire and as a base for visiting companies.

• To take on show roles, including operating and Production Electrician for produced and presented work.

• To maintain the Theatre’s lighting equipment at an appropriate level, research and propose new lighting equipment purchases and develop the lighting equipment replacement programme.

• To develop and maintain an accurate database of lamps used across the building ensuring there is sufficient spares in stock.

• To support the Theatre’s technical needs across all QTH activities – including Communities, Fundraising, and Events programming at the theatre and at other venues.

• To promote and ensure the highest level of Health and Safety across the organisation, ensuring all work is safe and complies with current entertainments licensing, fire, building and Health and Safety legislation.

• To maintain, develop and ensure the effective operation of best practice lighting related access equipment e.g. that related to audio induction or induction loops.

• To deputise for the Technical Manager where appropriate.

• To undertake training as required.

• For the appropriate candidate to work as Lighting Designer on inhouse festivals, readings and research and development performances.

Person Specification 

• Excellent knowledge and understanding of current lighting equipment and practices.

• Thorough knowledge of ETC Lighting desks and the ability to programme.

• Experience of programming moving lights.

• Good knowledge of Qlab and the ability to program.

• Good knowledge of AV and projection for use in a theatre environment.

• Aptitude for providing a warm and supportive service to creative teams, visiting companies and hirers.

• Ability to lead and develop the work of others as part of a close team.

• Positive and flexible approach to problem-solving.

• Experience in using Vectorworks, Auto CAD and/or Capture.
