My skillset and experience are varied – covering PR, copywriting, research, and marketing – but always centred around communication and creating a connection The fact I work across sectors and disciplines also means I think creatively and laterally, and am adept at finding new angles and story ideas. I have experience of B2B and B2C, under the premise that people are people and multiple touchpoints are needed.
I’ve been working in marketing for over 16 years, and have been a freelance communications consultant for the last seven. I’m an NCTJ trained journalist, so know how to tell a good story that resonates with the reader, from idea through to research and publication. I’m familiar with analytics and SEO and know how to use them in the full marketing mix. I have a background in research and insight, and my clients often use me for research reports as while words are my thing, I’ve been known to enjoy spending time digging into a spreadsheet. Clients include Wysa, Mind, National Academy for Social Prescribing, British Museum, EY, Advanced, The National Lottery, National Trust, BBC, Tesco, Virgin, Mitsubishi, Roche, RSPB and more.
- I’m Head of Communications for Heritage Open Days, a festival run by The National Trust, and work across national media, helping share the stories of the people, places and spaces involved in the festival. We achieved 300 pieces of coverage in a pandemic year, and 579 this year across broadcast, digital and print! The position also saw me have to take on social media when the team was furloughed – and achieve record engagement.
- I worked with Four Communications on Coventry City of Culture delivering an integrated campaign to amplify the message of this fabulous year of events.
- I worked as an interim marketing manager for the British Museum and Russell Cotes Art Gallery, looking after a mix of paid, social and email campaigns. Exhibitions sold out, footfall was growing, and marketing activity stats higher.
- Last year I worked with International Busking Day and steered a team to achieving coverage in ITV London, BBC London, Sky Arts, Global Radio, Times Radio and Evening Standard, resulting in record breaking attendance.
- I worked with Literally PR on literature PR, which sees me reaching out to media with relevant releases, building profiles, and engaging with influencers on social media. Recent reviews have been in Elle, The Guardian, The Sunday Times and BBC radio.
- I worked on a circus arts campaign in Australia, and landed national TV, radio, online and print coverage.
- I was Head of Communications & Marketing at Spread the Word, and achieved a doubling of social media followers, a sold out programme, and 100% increase in Prize entries. I looked after the website, planning and producing content that promoted their work and that of writers, and took care of outreach and liaising with the press.
- Since I wrote Lyrici Arts website their traffic and conversions has increased by 320%.
- I looked after marketing and press for Margate Bookie, a community literature festival, as well as leading on programming, working with a diverse roster of publishers and authors to deliver and engaging line up.
