We are looking for an Associate Dramaturg to join the National Theatre New Work Team.
The Associate Dramaturg supports the New Work department in identifying, attracting and engaging with emerging theatre artists and their work. The Associate Dramaturg will be involved in play development and literary management, and in working with writers and directors from idea towards production, script to stage. The Associate Dramaturg will read scripts and be called on to assess a wide range of material, to offer reports and feedback, to engage in close artistic conversations with early to mid-career artists, and to support the process of developing proposals and scripts towards commission and production.
The role requires close work with writers and directors particularly at earlier stages of their careers, and engagement with other strands of work at the NT including Learning. As well as being able to assess and forecast the trajectory of work for our Slate and stages, the Dramaturg will offer an articulate and informed dramaturgical engagement for emerging artists, forging connections to the opportunities within the New Work Department and on NT’s stages.
Blending experience in script analysis, show-making, and the commissioning process with an understanding of the producing context and repertoire of the NT, the role of the Dramaturg encompasses extensive reading, show coverage in London and beyond, workshop support, and project development. Relying on a comprehensive working knowledge of the UK’s new writing ecology, the Dramaturg will find and field the most promising material and artists with a view to enriching our slate and stages with their work
