We are looking for an outstanding Director of Communications and External Affairs to lead and achieve a step change in the awareness and profile of the RSC’s role, ambitions and impact among policy makers, industry stakeholders, thought leaders and the wider public.

In this newly created position, and at a pivotal time in the RSC’s history, you will work closely with the Co-Artistic Directors, Executive Director and Senior Leadership Team to develop and oversee a cohesive and integrated corporate communications strategy to deliver bold and ambitious strategies which maximise the RSC’s reputation, brand positioning and help to secure funding opportunities.

Reporting to the Executive Director, key areas of responsibility include (please see the full job description and person specification for the comprehensive list):

  • Strategy, planning and reputation management
  • Advocacy and policy
  • Measurement and evaluation
  • Media relations
  • Corporate communications
  • Leadership and coaching
  • Team development

To be suitable for this role, it is essential that you have the following skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Proven track record of working at a senior level across a range of Communications services.
  • Demonstrable senior level experience in a public policy environment, preferably with experience in the cultural and creative industries.
  • Ability to command credibility in convening and leading policy discussions with political and policy stakeholders.
  • Confident in the building and use of data and evidence to demonstrate impact and make the case for change.
  • Proven track record in brand and reputation management.
  • Ability to think strategically, innovatively and critically about communication.
  • Experience of leading and working collaboratively with direct reports and cross-functional teams.

This is a full time, permanent position based in London but with work across different locations, including Stratford-upon-Avon and across the UK. The hours are 40 per week, with occasional evening and weekend working.
