Job Purpose
Part-time, 2 year fixed term
Under supervision and approval of the Artistic Director, the Programming Associate will support the programming of all spaces, across the theatre’s two buildings. They will assist in the curation of the theatre programme to ensure that it meets the organisation’s artistic and financial objectives. They will take a lead on programming for The Little, as well as manage and coordinate the artist support programme.
We are looking for a savvy, creative individual looking to gain experience working within the programming department of a busy theatre building. The role will largely be curatorial and administrative.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
• To manage and develop the system for accepting, reviewing, and responding to production proposals in a timely fashion.
• To assist in reviewing proposals and take part in programming discussions and decisions for all theatre spaces.
• Under supervision of the Artistic Director, take a lead in curating the theatre programme for The Little theatre space.
• To liaise with and help guide prospective visiting theatre companies and producers through the proposal process up to contract.
• To research and seek out theatre companies and existing work suitable for the theatre programme.
• To manage and coordinate Southwark Playhouse’s artist support programmes.
• To work with the Artistic Director and other colleagues to ensure the programme of work across the theatre is integrated and communicated across the organisation and is in keeping with the mission and values of the theatre.
• To keep abreast of latest productions and audience trends.
• To support the Artistic Director with the development of own-produced in-house work.
• Develop and maintain a network of strong and long-term relationships with a view to exploring future opportunities, programming, and collaborations.
