From woodwork to water jets to paint shop, the RSC’s Scenic Workshop is a hive of activity that allows our productions to move from a concept to reality.

We are looking for a Workshop Assistant to join our Scenic Workshop in a varied and busy role, where no two days are the same, one day could see you acting as a driver’s mate, another day you could be assisting the carpenters, then labouring around the workshop and keeping it tidy and carrying out daily checks on the machines. This work will involve lifting and moving of large, heavy items.

Some of the responsibilities will include:

  • Transporting, loading and unloading a variety of objects between our various facilities
  • Operating a range of complex wood working and metal working machines Operating a range of hand and power tools
  • Operating the CNC and water jet machines
  • Preparing and spraying metal frames
  • Assisting in block colour painting of scenery
  • Driving company vehicles, locally and across the UK Helping with the pre-build of sets
  • Carrying out daily checks on all machines
  • Maintaining a high level of housekeeping across the workshop

Most importantly you’ll bring:

  • A knowledge of workshop or building site environments
  • A positive can-do attitude Physically capable of performing workshop duties including lifting and moving of large, heavy items
  • Basic knowledge of Health and Safety and environmental legislation
  • Ability to use own initiative and work under pressure to deadlines
  • Pro-active and flexible approach to work
  • The ability to work as part of a team
  • Excellent organisational skills

This is a full-time, permanent position which offers you the opportunity to learn new skills in a variety of areas, where the working hours for this role are 44 per week, Monday to Friday. However, some occasional evenings and weekends maybe required.
