About IGC

In Good Company supports performance-makers to grow their creative and business skills to build a sustainable career in the arts and cultivate an excellent and ambitious cultural offer in the region.

Alongside our partner venues, we advocate for freelancers, calling for best practice and supporting artists to dismantle barriers to career progression, particularly artists from low socio-economic backgrounds, artists from the Global Majority, artists from LGBTQIA+ communities, and disabled and neurodivergent artists.

Our lead partner is Derby Theatre, where we are based, and our partner organisations are Arena Theatre, Attenborough Arts Centre, Brewhouse, The Core at Corby Cube, Curve, Lincoln Arts Centre, Mansfield District Council, Nottingham Playhouse, Royal & Derngate and Nonsuch Studios.

Our year-round programme of free workshops, bursaries, performance platforms, mentorship, touring networks and one-to-one support is for performance makers at any stage of their career, and we are constantly working closely with the independent sector to ensure our programme is relevant, useful and ambitious. We’re here to put the Midlands on the map!

“What marks out In Good Company is that Derby began by asking artists what it was they wanted and needed rather than simply telling them what they had planned for them, and the scheme continues to consult” – Lyn Gardner, Critic

About the Bursary

The purpose of this bursary is to establish a cohesive touring network in the Midlands that attracts outstanding work to the region and a new and exciting experience for audiences.

We expect this bursary will be part of a much larger touring budget, and potentially used as match funding to lever more financial support from other sources.

In addition to the bursary, artists should expect to lead on the activity with In Good Company’s support as and when required. This support in kind from IGC will be tailored to your needs and agreed once the bursary recipient is confirmed, but we expect it may include contracting and relationship management with presenting venues, supporting wraparound activity and promoting the work.
