The Director of Producing and Administration (DPA) joins the Artistic Director / CEO Anna Coombs in leading Tangle. The DPA ensures that operations are efficient and enterprising, especially through astute financial management. They will seek out new opportunities and find ways to grow the organisation. At the heart of an ambitious family of theatre professionals, this is a special chance to affect change and make an impact both regionally and nationally. Tangle serves the excellence of African and Caribbean theatre artists and we’re looking for someone aligned with our values and ethos.

Main Responsibilities

Strategy

  • Collaborate with the Artistic Director/CEO and Trustees in creating and implementing Tangle’s Business Plan, ensuring that it delivers the company’s charitable mission, is artistically ambitious, is based upon a financially sustainable business model with astute management of risk.
  • Lead on the administration of all aspects of the company and its operations. Put in place and help deliver appropriate fundraising strategies, systems, controls to deliver the Plan, monitor progress and achievement and report to the Board.
  • Represent Tangle externally as required, advocating and promoting its interests to artistic, theatre and business audiences.
  • With the Artistic Director/CEO, pursue appropriate opportunities for the artistic work and identify commercial opportunities where relevant.
  • Work with the Artistic Director/CEO to identify new national and local stakeholders and partners for the company and specific productions.

Financial Management

  • Manage the financial well-being of the charity, ensuring that prudent budgets are set, monitored and met, and effective cost control and cash flow procedures are in place for the company and for each production/event.
  • Provide timely and accurate financial reports to the Board, funders and to meet statutory obligations.
  • Create and provide annual budgets, quarterly management accounts and cashflows to the Artistic Director/CEO and the Board.
  • Facilitate the work of the Independent Examiner and external accountants in creating annual accounts, according to statutory requirements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting to funders, using any required systems

Producing

  • Lead Tangle’s producing operations, delivering the agreed programme on time and to budget and with the maximum impact.
  • Support the production process through provision of excellent administration. Ensure activity is delivered in compliance with licensing and health and safety requirements.
  • Oversee the work of any freelance line producers to ensure the smooth and effective delivery of events and tours.
  • Act as the first point of contact with venues for tours and residencies, ensuring contracts are signed and agreed prior to the event.
  • Lead on evaluation of projects and tours. Act as a strategic ‘sounding-board’ for the AD and Associates when planning new programmes of work or planning projects. Lead on HR matters including: provision of up-to-date and legally compliant contracts for employees, freelancers, artists and creatives, ensuring key policies and procedures are implemented and followed.
  • Review and update current policies and introduce new policies as required. Develop and maintain a good working relationship with the Relationship Manager (and other staff at) Arts Council England and take responsibility for reporting utilising the methods and procedures required of NPOs.
  • Arrange and attend Board meetings, ensuring the Board is kept fully informed on artistic, legal, finance and HR issues and take responsibility for taking and issuing minutes.
  • Proactively develop and manage a risk register.
  • Ensure Tangle complies will all its legal requirements including GDPR.
  • Ensure adherence to the Theatre’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion policy.
