Deadline
20 February 2023

For our first Scratch Nights of 2023, we are pleased to announce our next call-out for circus artists to share new work as part of our Scratch Nights X Circus event on Wednesday 19th April at the Lowry.

The event will be curated in collaboration with Turtle Key Arts and Ockham’s Razor. In collaboration with Turtle Key Arts and Ockham’s Razor, we are now inviting circus artists, collectives or companies and artists who include elements of circus in their practice to submit proposals to develop and share new work as part of our next Scratch Night on Wednesday 19 April 2023.

We are looking for proposals that focus on ground-based circus skills or/and working with free standing equipment (working at a maximum height of 4m). Please note that we cannot support any work that requires rigging, including ground rigging. Four proposals will be selected, and we are able to support performances of up to 20mins.

Your proposal should be for a new idea or a work in progress piece, and this should not have been previously performed. This is an open callout for artists based anywhere in the UK, and we strongly encourage artists based in Greater Manchester and the North West to apply.

SELECTED ARTISTS WILL RECEIVE:

  • A fee of £1000 to develop and present the idea
  • Rehearsal space at The Lowry where possible
  • Producer support and mentoring from Lowry staff and Turtle Key Arts or Ockham’s Razor
  • A set of production images taken by a professional photographer
  • Anonymous feedback from audiences in response to the questions you want answered about your work
  • If required, extra financial support will be made available as a contribution towards access costs, caring responsibilities and any costs associated with wellbeing and safe working in relation to the activity you wish to undertake

We can discuss what you need if you are selected.

SCRATCH NIGHTS GUIDELINES:

  • Your work should be performance-based, including ground-based circus skills or/and using free-standing equipment, and be performed within a 20mins timeframe.
  • The work must be a new idea or a piece development, with basic technical requirements.
  • The work must be suitable for our Studio space.
  • Please visit our website for more details on the technical specifications of the Studio. Please note that we cannot support any work that requires rigging, including ground rigging and maximum working height is 4m.

This opportunity is for artists at any stage of their career.
